W latach 1939 – 1994 roku miasteczko Leavesden było znane z lotniska i fabryki samolotów myśliwskich oraz silników lotniczych Rolls-Royce. Mury i zaplecze fabryki pozwoliły, by miasteczko odżyło ponownie, gdy w 2000 roku stały się miejscem produkcji pierwszego filmu o Harrym Potterze. Finalnie produkcja wszystkich filmów z serii zajęła ponad 10 lat, a Leavesden przez dekadę było domem producentów i aktorów, czarodziejów i mugoli…

Studio Warner Bros w Leavesden zwiedziłem w ostatnich latach dwukrotnie. Większośc odwiedzających zaczyna podróż pociągiem na stacji London Euston i dociera do Watford Junction, by tam przesiąść się w dedykowany autobus w barwach Warner Bros i serii książek o Harrym, którym dociera się pod samo wejście do magicznego świata.

Emocje związane z wejściem w ten świat są dozowane. Gdy, będąc w kolejce, mijamy komórkę pod schodami z Privet Drive wydaje się, że to już, że to teraz, ale jednak nie. W jaki sposób finalnie stajemy się częścią świata Harrego nie napiszę tutaj. Ale robi to ogromne wrażenie. I gdy słyszy się wokół liczne “łał”, można naprawdę poczuć się jak uczeń jednego z czterech domów, przemierzający korytarze Hogwartu pierwszy czy drugi raz.

Witaj w Hogwarcie

Podczas zwiedzania napotkasz przestrzenie i pomieszczenia identyczne ze światem filmowym, jakby gotowe do wejścia czarodziejów na plan, jak i pojedyncze, robiące wrażenie rekwizyty, wykonane z bardzo dużą dokładnością.
Przejdziesz tutaj przez całą Wielką Salę czy hol główny Banku Gringotta, wejdziesz do Gabinetu Profesora Dumbledora, w którym spojrzą na Ciebie z 48 obrazów poprzedni dyrektorzy Hogwartu i staniesz w progu Chatki Hagrida by zajrzeć do środka.

Fantastyczne zwierzęta

Znajdziesz je m.in. w zakazanym lesie. To jedno z nielicznych miejsc w studiu, które wydaje się stworzone jedynie na potrzeby urozmaicenia zwiedzania gościom i nie uczestniczące w filmie. Ale jednocześnie choćby poruszające się zwierzęta dopracowane są z taką szczegółowością, że wydają się żywe.

Eliksiry i obrona przed czarną magią

Duże wrażenie robi ciemna sala do nauki eliksirów. Na stołach pozostały otwarte książki i pełne kociołki nad którymi unosi się para. Dookoła sali, drewniane regały i półki pełne są słoików, butelek i kurzu. Poczujesz tutaj klimat mrocznych lochów Hogwartu.

Największe wrażenie zrobiły na mnie

Ulica Pokątna, Peron 9 i ¾ i Wielka Sala, czyli duże przestrzenie, w których wszystko dookoła jest identyczne z filmowym światem i których nie obserwuje się tutaj z boku, ale wkracza w ten świat. Możesz przejść się chodnikiem ulicy pełnej sklepów dla czarodziejów mijając zjawiskowe witryny, czy po kamiennej posadzce Wielkiej Sali.

Szczegóły i rekwizyty, które istnieją naprawdę

Skrytka w Banku Gringotta i jej masywne metalowe drzwi z mechanizmem zamków, Drzwi do Komnaty Tajemnic, Puchar Turnieju Trójmagicznego, Złoty znicz, różdżki.

W wielu miejscach dowiadujesz się, że rzeczy magiczne, te które istnieć nie mogą i były dotąd dziełem komputera – istnieją naprawdę.

Kilka wskazówek

Po wejściu do studia, wycieczka nie jest ograniczona czasowo. Możesz przejść całość w godzinę, możesz też wykorzystać cały dzień do zamknięcia. Najwygodniej rezerwować więc wcześniejsze godziny. To niestety oznacza potrzebę rezerwacji około 3 miesięcy wcześniej. Dotarcie z centrum Londynu do WB zajmuje około 1,5h, dlatego dobrą godziną dla rezerwacji jest np 11:00, by spędzić w studiu około 3-4 godziny z przerwą na piwo kremowe (bezalkoholowe) w trakcie zwiedzania (mniej więcej w połowie zwiedzania znajduje się foodcourt).

Proponowany sposób dotarcia brytyjską komunikacją to połączenie pociągu ze stacji London Euston do Watford Junction (około 20 minut) z dedykowanym autobusem studia Warner Bross (czas podróży około 15 minut, autobusy odjeżdżają 3-4 razy na godzinę więc nie trzeba długo czekać). In 1939–1994, the town of Leavesden was known for its airport, fighter aircraft factory and Rolls-Royce aircraft engines. The walls and facilities of the factory allowed the town to revive again when in 2000 they became the movie plan of the first Harry Potter movie. Finally, the production of all movies in the series took more than 10 years, and Leavesden was the home of producers and actors, wizards and muggles for a decade

I visited the Warner Bros Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter in Leavesden twice. Most visitors start their journey in train at London Euston station and reach Watford Junction to change to a dedicated bus, painted in the colors of Warner Bros and the Harry Potter book series. That is how you reach the entrance to the magical world.

The emotions associated with entering this world are dosed. When, being in a queue, we pass a cupboard under the stairs from Privet Drive, it seems that entry is now, but we are just waiting to the room, where the trip is announced by the service and paintings hanging on the walls. Little further visitors gather in a cozy cinema room. How we finally become part of the world of Harry I will not write here. But it makes a huge impression. And when you hear so many „wow” around, you can really feel like a student from one of the four houses wandering the corridors of Hogwarts for the first or second time.

Welcome to Hogwarts

During the tour you will come across locations and rooms identical to the world of movie, ready for wizards to enter the set, as well as individual, impressive props, made with very high accuracy.
You will pass through the entire Great Hall or the main hall of Gringott Bank, enter the Office of Professor Dumbledore, in which 48 Hogwarts directors look at you and you will stand at the threshold of Hagrid’s Hut to look inside.

Fantastic beasts

You will find them, among others, in the forbidden forest. This is one of the few places in the studio that seems to be created only for the purposes of diversifying sightseeing for guests and not participating in the movie. The moving animals are refined with such detail that they seem alive.

Potions and defense against the dark arts

A dark room for potions learning makes a great impression. On the tables remained books and full cauldrons with steam rises above. Around the room, wooden shelves are full of jars, bottles and dust. You will feel the atmosphere of Hogwarts dark dungeons here.

What impressed me the most

Diagon Alley, Platform Nine and Three-Quarters and Great Hall, which are large spaces in which everything around is identical to the movie world and which is not observed from the side, you enter this world. You can walk along the sidewalk of a street full of wizard shops, passing phenomenal shop windows or the stone floor of the Great Hall.

Details and props that really exist

Hiding place at Gringotts Bank and its massive metal door with a lock mechanism, Door to the Chamber of Secrets, Triwizard Tournament Cup, Golden Snitch, wands.
In many places you find out that magical things, those that can’t exist and have been computer work, really do exist.

Tips

After entering the studio, the tour is not limited in time. You can walk the whole place in an hour or you can use the whole day until closing time. It’s most convenient to book earlier hours. This means you need to book about 3 months in advance. Getting from central London to WB takes about 1.5 hours, so a good hour for reservations is e.g. 11:00, to spend about 3-4 hours in the studio with a break for butter-beer (non-alcoholic) during the tour (approximately halfway through the tour foodcourt is located).

The suggested way of getting there using British communication is to connect a train from London Euston station to Watford Junction (about 20 minutes) with a dedicated Warner Bross studio bus (travel time about 15 minutes, buses depart 3-4 times an hour, so you don’t have to wait long).
